Greenwich Pensioner John Rome [Roome], Seaman
Letter from Mrs C. Davis, dated October 1904, says: 'This is a photo of Old Pensioner Roon - Lord Nelson's Signal Man - who hoisted "England Expects &c', at the time it was taken in 1858. Roon was then over 80 years of age (a patient of my husband's in Greenwich Hospital). / The photo was taken by the late Dr. Alexander Fisher RN, who was there at the time. Dr. A. Fisher died 20 years ago and I have reason to believe this may be the only copy. / C. Davis'. Accompanies the photographic carte de visite head and shoulders portrait of John Rome, as a Greenwich Pensioner.
