On board the Royal Navy commando carrier Bulwark (1948) while under way at sea in the Eastern Mediterranean during NATO Exercise Deep Furrow, an amphibious landing in north-west Turkey involving forces from the United States of America, United Kingdom, Italy, Greece and Turkey. The photographer is on the island superstructure looking aft and to port showing four Westland Wessex HU.5 helicopters of 848 Naval Air Squadron on deck. XS489 (VK/B) is lifting off from spot 6. XT485 (VT/B) is on spot 7, XT459 (VB/B) is on spot 8 and XT468 (VL/B) is on spot 9. A large number of oil drums and Royal Marine Commando vehicles are parked on the starboard side of the deck. The eight barreled Corvus chaff launcher is mounted on the port side of the island in the left foreground.
