A distant port side view, taken from abaft the beam, of the Royal Navy guided missile destroyer Kent (1961) under way during exercise Sally Forth in the North Sea off the Firth of Forth. Her pendant number is D12. Beyond her is the guided missile destroyer Fife (1964), pendant number D20. A flare is burning in the sky above the two ships and in flight on the right is a McDonnell Douglas F4K Phantom of 892 Naval Air Squadron from the aircraft carrier Ark Royal (1950). The photographer is on board the guided missile destroyer Bristol (1969).
