Bomb explosions on the horizon beyond the Royal Navy guided missile destroyers Kent (1961) and Fife (1964) during exercise Sally Forth in the North Sea off the Firth of Forth. The Kent (1961) is in the foreground and is seen from abaft her port beam but with everything ahead of her forward funnel being out of the picture. The bombs were dropped by Blackburn Buccaneer S2 jets of 809 Naval Air Squadron flying from the aircraft carrier Ark Royal (1950). The photographer is on board the guided missile destroyer Bristol (1969).
