On board the United States Navy guided missile destroyer Claude V Ricketts (1960) while on a voyage from Kiel to Norfolk, Virginia. The photographer is on the port side of 01 deck amidships just forward of the Asroc launcher looking aft showing the transfer crew watching a person in the highline chair during the transfer evolution with the destroyer James C Owens (1944) which is nearly alongside. The transfer crew are dressed in red overalls and are wearing life jackets while the officer in charge is in white overalls. The Ricketts' crew consisted of 10 officers and 164 crew from the US Navy with the rest of the complement being from West Germany, Italy, Greece, United Kingdom, Netherlands and Turkey as a mixed manning experiment. Only the stern of the James C Owens (1944), hull number 776, is in the picture.
