'Light cruisers, Scapa'
Inscribed by the artist, as title (but lacking the comma) lower right. The ships are British vessels of 'Arethusa' and 'Caroline' types, about 1916, and appear to be raising steam in an atmospherically rendered and still early morning or evening. A tender, on the right, putting out more smoke than the vessels still at anchor, approaches the artist's viewpoint head-on.
