The funicular railway on the north side of Capri, Italy
The funicular railway on the north side of Capri, Italy. The line connects the harbour on the coast with the Piazza Umberto I in the centre of the island and it was completed in 1907. The photographer is looking north and down to the harbour from the top terminus. The Italian Navy torpedo boat Astore (1934) with the hull letters AS is in the harbour and a Peninsular & Oriental Line passenger cruise ship, either the Strathnaver (1931) or the Strathaird (1932), is anchored off the coast.
