Ships Cover for coaling craft of various types. The four vessels that feature prominently are C4 [ex-Onward](fl. 1920s), C8 [ex-Acheron, ex-Northumberland] (1866), C109 [ex-Ganges II, ex-Agincourt] (1865), and the RFA Mercedes (1902). The documentation mainly comprises specifications and descriptions of needed vessels or conversion work required, details of tenders and correspondence with the contractors, stability calculations, cost estimates, details of ships fittings and equipment, details of alterations and reports on British and foreign developments in coaling techniques and technology. The earliest papers date from June 1907 and the last from August 1924.
