Major-General Arthur Tooker Collins of the Marines in his full dress uniform
A full-length portrait in oils, slightly to the right, showing Major-General Arthur Tooker Collins of the Marines in his full dress uniform, his right hand thrust into his waistcoat, with an encampment of Marines behind in a forested landscape, perhaps a reference to his service in North America during the War of American Independence. This is the only known portrait of Collins.
The canvas is inscribed: 'Artr Tooker Collins 1784'; his age is given as 66.
Three uniform coats of the 1782 pattern owned by Collins are also in the collection (see UNI0014-16). UNI0014 and UNI0015 are both dress coats making it highly likely that one is the example shown in portrait.
