The waterfront and anchorage at Funchal, Madeira. The photographer is in an hotel on the seafront looking south-by-east across the road showing four bullock carts waiting for pasengers. A large number of espada small fishing boats are drawn up on the foreshore and one is just offshore. Also offshore are six passenger carrying motor launches, one of which belongs to the Savoy Hotel. A modern motor yacht is at anchor on the right and beyond her, seen from off herstarboard beam, is the French passenger cruise ship Foucauld (1922). on the left and also seen from off her starboard beam is the Canadian Pacific Steamships passenger cruise ship Duchess of Richmond (1928) dressed overall.
