Seascape

A sketch showing the patterning of waves and the white tops whipped up by the wind. The wintry conditions are indicated through a combination of the tonal effects of paint, limited palette and the grey of the paper. The low viewpoint concentrates on the appearance and movement of the waves. The effect of the wind is shown by the white flecks on the crests of the waves. The sketch was one of many produced during 1911-28, when Everett often rented a studio close to the sea to enable him to record the constantly shifting state of sea and sky.
