Single masted sloops berthed stern-on to the quayside in the harbour at Nassau, Bahamas.
Five single masted sloops berthed stern-on to the quayside in the harbour at Nassau, Bahamas. The photographer is looking north-west-by-north across the quay from a slightly elevated position showing traders on the quay with their market produce laid out for inspection and purchase. The produce includes fruit, vegetables, grains and bottles of drink. A pan weighing scale is on a box in the right foreground. Wooden boxes marked Palmolive Soap and Crescent Gloss Starch can be seen and a man is standing by a 2-wheeled handcart. A number of sloops and a 2-masted schooner are anchored offshore. Paradise Island is in the background and the Nassau Harbour entrance lighthouse is in the centre background. A 2-funnelled passenger cruise ship, possibly the Kungsholm (1928), is at anchor off the north shore of Paradise Island. A vertical format negative.
