Quayside stern view of the three masted barque Alexander von Humboldt (1906) and the training ship Kvartsita (1945), moored on the River Tyne during the Cutty Sark Tall Ships Race in July 1993
A quayside view , fine off the port quarter, of the three-masted barque Alexander von Humboldt (1906) and the training ship Kvartsita (1945), moored on the River Tyne during the Cutty Sark Tall Ships Race in July 1993. Alexander von Humboldt is moored to the quayside and her name and home port 'BREMERHAVEN' are painted on her stern. All of Alexander von Homboldt's sails are furled and a German ensign can be seen flying from a halyard attached to the mizzen mast. The schooner Kvartsita is moored out-board off Alexander von Humboldt's starboard side. The vessel's name and home port 'SCAFTO' are visible on its stern. All of Kvartsita's sails are furled and a large Swedish ensign is attached to a flagstaff on the stern. Two smaller yachts are moored on Kvartsita's starboard side, but cannot be identified. The former Baltic Flur Mill can be seen in the background on the other side of the river.
