Motuan outrigger canoes sailing away from alongside the Cunard Line passenger cruise ship Franconia (1923) at Port Moresby, New Guinea. The photographer is on the deck of the Franconia (1923) looking down on the canoes as they make sail. The two closest canoes are being paddled clear and their sail is still stowed. The other canoes have hoisted their single square spritsail and are under way. The canoe in the centre has the number 9 on her sail.
