The town centre at Reykjavik, Iceland.

The town centre at Reykjavik, Iceland. The photographer is looking west-south-west from near the statue of Ingolfur Arnarson showing a number of motor lorries and motor cars by a petrol pump and garage on the right. Government House is on the left with the staues of Christian IX (1818-1906) and Hannes Hafstein (1861-1922) on the front lawn. Shops and the Nyja Bio are on the opposite side of the Laekjargata. A large building on the right has a fylfot (similar to swastika) symbol on the roof and on the flag which is at half-mast. The building was erected in 1919 and is the offices of the Eimskipafielag Islands (Iceland Steamship Company Ltd). In the background to the right of centre is the Landakotskirkja.
