Shops on the Austurstraeti at Reykjavik, Iceland.
Shops and other commercial premises on the Austurstraeti at Reykjavik, Iceland. The photographer is looking west along the south side of the street showing motor cars parked in the street. The nearest shop has the intertwined letters S, B and R above the door and the adjoining shop has the letter HA on a projecting sign. To the right is a building advertising Soda Fountain Tea Rooms and Garden Restaurant. A five storey building topped with a dome at Austurstræti 16 was built in 1916-1917 and is one of the first buildings designed by Samúelsson, as well as earning the title of being the first large building in Iceland. The building has Apotek (pharmacy) on it and on the right are shops with Soffiubud and Visir signs on them.
