The breakwaters and the Agios Nikolaos fortress and lighthouse at Mandraki harbour, Rhodes. The photographer is looking east-by-north from the shore next to the west breakwater showing children playing on the rocks in the foreground. On the end of the west breakwater is a limestone pillar surmounted by a bronze statue of a platoni deer stag. the pillar on the east breakwater is surmounted by the Roman she-wolf suckling Romulus and Remus. At anchor offshore beyond the fortress is the Orient Line passenger cruise ship Orford (1928), seen from very fine off her starboard bow. One of her motor lifeboats is heading towards the harbour.
