The photographer is looking south-east from an elevated vantage point showing a modern 12 or 13 storey rectangular block of flats in the left foreground. A tree-lined promenade faces Botafogo Cove and on the far side of the cove on the left is the Iate Clube do Rio de Janeiro (Yacht club of Rio de Janiero) which was established at Urca in 1920. On the right is the main clubhouse and the olympic swimming pool of the Club De Regatas Guanabara. The clubhouse was built in 1922 and the swimming pool was completed in 1933.
