The Municipal Casino and the north end of the Plage Grande-Conche at Royan, France.
The Municipal Casino and the north end of the Plage Grande-Conche at Royan, France. The photographer is looking east showing people sitting on folding chairs in the foreground. It is high tide and large numbers of candy-striped tents are packed onto the sandy beach. Very many people are in the sea. The Municipal Casino, built in 1895 and destroyed by bombing in 1945, is to the left of centre and a gasholder is on the right. The photographer is on a shore excursion from the Peninsular & Oriental Steam Navigation Company passenger cruise ship Viceroy of India (1929).
