The photographer is looking west-by-north from high ground to the east showing an unidentified cable ship, seen from off the port bow, moored bow-on to the shore. Her hull paintwork is in poor condition and she may be laid up. A few sailing schooners are in the harbour and on the left, hidden behind a palm frond, is the cable ship Cable Enterprise (1924). The buildings are mainly single storey and of timber and corrugated iron construction.
