The north-east corner of Porto Grande Harbour, St. Vincent (Sao Vicente), Cape Verde Islands. The photographer is looking north-west from the Avenue Marginal showing a tree, seating benches and an arched wall in the left foreground. Construction work is proceeding on the end of a wharf and a large number of people are on the wharf. The funnel of a steamship can be seen on the right on the far side of the wharf and it has the letter W on it. A signal station is on the top of the hill. Single masted sloops and a 2-masted schooner drying sails are in the left background.
