A very distant starboard broadside view of a Cunard Line passenger cruise ship anchored offshore at Sandakan, North Borneo.

A very distant starboard broadside view of a Cunard Line passenger cruise ship anchored offshore at Sandakan, North Borneo. The ship is either the Franconia (1923) or the Carinthia (1925) on a round-the-world cruise with a black-painted hull and her midship accommodation ladder is deployed. The Carinthia adopted an all-white livery in 1932 and the Franconia followed suit in 1933. The photographer is looking to seaward over the rooftops of buildings and the image of the ship is framed by tree branches.
