The Fortaleza Ozama at Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic
The Fortaleza Ozama at Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic. It was built between 1502 and 1505 at the mouth of the Ozama River and is the oldest fortress in the Americas. The fort is viewed from seaward and shows the temporary rectangular erection above the main tower. An unidentified shipwreck is just offshore on the left. The negative is incorrectly captioned "Santa Domingo".
