A distant view of a three-masted topsail schooner, a Loyal class fleet tender and various small craft in Tynemouth Harbour, taken on Tynemouth Pier taken during the Cutty Sark Tall Ships race in July 1993. The top sail schooner is sailing to the mouth of the harbour, with its jibs, foresail, square foretopsail and mainsail set. The mizzen is bare. A Loyal class fleet tender is underway inbound in the middle of the image. Off the starboard side of the fleet tender is a small motor boat towing a tender. The Tyne Towage tug vessel Sarah D (1990) is visible in the far distance heading outbound towards the harbour mouth. The South Shields lighthouse is visible on the right hand side of the image, whilst Tynemouth Pier lighthouse is visible on the left hand side of the image. The South Shields pieris in the background. A large group of small craft can be seen beyond the topsail schooner in the background.
