A distant port side view of a two-masted schooner outbound in Tynemouth harbour, taken during the Cutty Sark Tall Ships Race in July 1993
A distant port broadside view of a two-masted schooner sailing outbound of Tynemouth harbour, taken during the Cutty Sark Tall Ships Race in July 1993. The schooner has a white hull and its name is painted on the bow in black letters. Due to the image being out of focus, however, the ship cannot be identified. The flying jib, jib and staysail are set. The crew, dressed in bright red foul weather clothing, are lining the deck of the schooner. A variety of moored small craft can be seen off the bow of the schooner. A harbour mooring vessel (?) with a yellow superstructure and black painted hull is immediately off the bow of the schooner. The South Shields Pier and Lighthouse are visible off the starboard side of the schooner in the background. A large group of people can be seen standing on South Shields Pier watching the sailing vessels go by. The wall of the Tynemouth Pier and a partial view of the back of a man's head can be seen in the foreground.
