A view of the auxiliary schooner-rigged sail training ship Sir Winston Churchill (1966) and a Bermudan rigged sloop sailing out of Tynemouth harbour, taken during the Cutty Sark Tall Ships race in July 1993

A view of a top sail auxiliary schooner-rigged training ship Sir Winston Churchill (1966) and a Bermudan rigged yacht sailing out of Tynemouth harbour, taken during the Cutty Sark Tall Ships Race in July 1993. The Sir Winston Churchill has a black painted hull and the jib, foresail and the square fore topsail are in the process of being unfurled. A group of the crew can be seen climbing on the shrouds and yards of the foremast. None of the sails on the main and mizzen masts have been unfurled. A red ensign is flying at the stern and a smaller English flag can be seen flying from the top of the main mast. The signal flag 'S' is flying from the top of the foremast. Off the starboard quarter of Sir Winston Churchill is a white hulled Bermudan rigged yacht with its jib unfurled. A variety of moored small craft can be seen on the left hand side of the image. A large group of people are standing on South Shields Pier watching the sailing vessels go by. The wall of the Tynemouth Pier and a partial view of the back of a man's head can be seen in the foreground.
