A partial view of the port quarter of the auxiliary sail training schooner Sir Winston Churchill (1966), and three Bermudan rigged yachts sailing out of Tynemouth harbour, taken during the Cutty Sark Tall Ships Race in July 1993. The jibs and fore topsail and foresail are set. Crew are in the rigging and along the foreyards. Off the starboard side of Sir Winston Churchill is a white hulled Bermudan rigged yacht with its genoa unfurled. Behind the Sir Winston Churchilll is a second white-hulled yacht with the name "Northern Rock" painted in black on the port bow. A banner with the words "NEWCASTLE UNITED" is attached to the port side guard rails. Off the starboard side of the sloop is a partially obscured third white yacht with its genoa and mainsail unfurled. A variety of moored small craft can be seen on the left hand side of the image. A large group of people can be seen standing on South Shields Pier watching the sailing vessels go by. The wall of the Tynemouth Pier and a partial view of the back of a man's head can be seen in the foreground.
