A distant port side view of a unidentified trading ketch and a Swedish schooner leaving Tynemouth harbour during the Cutty Sark Tall Ships Race in July 1993. The ketch is white hull with a red stripe running the length of the top of the hull. It is under full sail. Off the bow of the ketch is a Loyal class fleet tender with the South Shields pier and Lighthouse visible behind it. Off the starboard quarter is a blue hulled schooner with its three jins set and a Swedish ensign flying from its stern. In the far distance is a white hulled pasenger vessel. A large group of small craft are moored on the left hand side of the image. Part of Tynemouth Pier and a partial view of the top of a person's head are visible in the foreground.
