An aerial view of the city and harbour at Trieste, Italy. The photographer is looking west-north-west from high ground showing the Peninsular & Oriental Steam Navigation Company cruise ship Stratheden (1937), seen from off her port bow, alongside a wharf off the Riva Nazario Sauro. At the end of the wharf and seen from off her starboard beam is the Italian passenger ferry Francesco Morosini (1928). At anchor out in the harbour and seen from fine off her starboard quarter is a British Royal Navy light cruiser, either the Arethusa (1934) or the Penelope (1935), with a full set of awnings rigged. The clock and bell tower of the Aquario Marino and fish market building is in the left background and beyond it is the lighthouse. In the foreground is a 2-storey building with E.Toti above the door which is number 6. In the left foreground is a stone memorial depicting a machine gun and a rifle and the inscription 'Ovi Consacro La III Armata Nei Novembre MCMXVIII (Ovi Consecration of the Third Army In November 1918).
