On the wooden pier at Zoppot, Free City of Danzig. Zoppot was part of the Free City of Danzig from 1920 to 1939. The photographer is on a shore excursion from the Peninsular & Oriental Steam Navigation cruise ship Viceroy of India (1929) and is standing mid way along the pier looking towards the seaward end. A passenger steamer is alongside the north side of the pier shuttling tourists between the cruise ship and the pier. The pier is lined with flags including a German swastika.
