Newport (1867)
Scale: 1:48. A plan showing the starboard quarter gallery, and bow, trail-board, headrail, and head for Newport (1867), a 5-gun Second Class gunvessel when it was originally ordered in 1860. Construction was suspended in 1862-3 and the ship was launched in 1867 and completed as a survey ship.
The figurehead has not been drawn on the plan, nor the decoration ‘drops’ between the windows of the quarter galleries. The plan includes the head and trail-board measurements for reference. A handwritten pencil attachment (DIC0089.1) states that this plan was then used for HMS Martin (1850). This relates to the ship fitted as a training brig in 1864.
Signed by Henry Cradock [Master Shipwright, Pembroke Dockyard, 1859-1864]. The plan includes Admiralty Letter Book number S6845.
