Dragon (1845)
Scale: 1:48. A Devonport Dockyard copy of an Admiralty plan showing a half stern-board, starboard quarter, and bow, headrail, head and proposed figurehead for Dragon (1845), a 6-gun Second Class paddle frigate.
The figurehead is a full-length carving of a winged dragon facing forward, Its feet are clasped to the ship’s head at the lower cheek of the trail-board. The coiled tail is carved down the trail-board. The stern board and quarter galleries have cornucopia ‘drops’ between the windows.
Signed by W. Edye [Master Shipwright, Devonport, 1843-1859]. The plan includes Admiralty Letter Book numbers S1278 / 1476. The design was approved and initialled by William Symonds [Surveyor of the Navy, 1832-1860].
