Studies of the foremast of HMS 'Emperor of India'
Inscribed 'Emperor of India' lower right, by the artist, with other notes. Two accurately drawn studies of the foremast rig of this 1913 battleship, in the period from late 1917 to January 1919. Throughout this period she was fitted with a small clinker screen to the leading edge of her fore funnel and this is just visible in the bottom left of the main drawing, abaft the tripod. She is wearing the flag of Rear-Admiral William C. M. Nicholson, CB.
