HMS 'Lion': study of 'B' turret
Inscribed by the artist 'Lion', twice at the bottom and right. The battlecruiser 'Lion' was built at Devonport Dockyard, launched on 6 August 1910 and completed in May 1912. This is a port-broadside detail of 'B' turret in 1917-18 prior to the fitting of a rangefinder on the roof of the armoured conning tower (right). The seaplane in the pencil sketch above cannot be identified. The green background may indicate land behind.
