The spritsail barges Scone (1919) and Gladys (1901) and the Colchester oyster smack Kate (1883) under sail in the Thames Estuary during the Southend Barge Match. The staysail barge Scone is on the left of the picture and only her stern, seen from off the port quarter, is in the picture. She is on the port tack and the PREEDCRETE logo is on her white topsail. To starboard of the Scone and seen from off the port quarter is the Colchester oyster smack Kate (1883) with her port registry CK139 on her mainsail. Beyond the Kate is the bowsprit barge Gladys (1901) which has a white jib and has the Sunblest Bread logo on her topsail. A number of other barges and sailing craft are in the background.
