A port side view, taken from well abaft the beam, of four spritsail barges and an oyster smack under sail at the start of a barge match in the Thames Estuary. On the left is the oyster smack Kate (1883) with her port registry CK139 on the mainsail. To starboard of her is the staysail barge Oak (1881) with a white staysail and the Duradon logo on her topsail. The bowsprit barge Gladys (1901) has the Sunblest Bread logo on her topsail and the staysail barge Victor (1895) has a blue and white striped staysail and the Kentish Life logo on her topsail.
