A slightly distant bow view of eight spritsail barges under sail in Gillingham Reach, River Medway, at the start of a barge match. On the left is the bowsprit barge Mirosa (1892) with a Blue Circle Cement logo on her topsail. In the centre with the Tate + Lyle logo is the bowsprit barge May (1891) and on the right with the RDL logo is the staysail barge Ironsides (1900). Astern of the Ironsides is the Victor (1895) with a blue and white striped staysail and the Kentish Life logo on her topsail. All of the barges seem to be on the port tack. Negatives numbers PM2359/2 to PM2364/37 were taken on the same day.
