The photographer is onboard the ship looking down on the quayside showing a class of young ladies ascending the accommodation ladder while other teenage students are gathered near the foot of the ladder waiting for their turn to board. The quay is a commercial one with railway trucks, iron pipes and tarpaulin covered stacks on it. In the background is a group of local motor coaches, presumably the vehicles that have been used by the students.
