The photographer is looking down and aft from the promenade deck showing local people and passengers on the quayside by the storage sheds. The Singapore Harbour Board brow number 8 with a B-I banner is rigged for the embarkation of passengers and barriers separate the boarding area from the rest of the wharf. The passengers are having their papers checked at a table at the foot of the brow. Transparencies numbers PCT578 to PCT601 were taken on the same occasion.
