The photographer is in the port rear corner of the wheelhouse looking forward and to starboard. An officer is working on a chart in the chartroom in the foreground and another officer is standing by the starboard forward windows. The Strathardle ran trials on 7 January and was handed over to P & O on 20 January before sailing on her maiden voyage to London via Kobe, Yokohama and Hong Kong.
