A very distant port bow view of the Peninsular & Oriental Steam Navigation Company passenger/cargo liner Chusan (1950) under tow bound out from the Western Docks, Southampton. Alongside berth 101 in the Western Docks is the troopship Empire Fowey (1935), seen from well ahead of her starboard beam. She is making smoke. Astern of her are an unidentified Coast Lines coaster and the Union-Castle Mail Steamship Company passenger/cargo liner Stirling Castle (1936), seen from off her port quarter. In the foreground alongside the head of the Royal Pier is a small passenger launch named Shamrock.
