Temporary commercial premises and shacks in Cabildo Street in Manila, Philippines. This area was destroyed by the Japanese in 1945. The nearest shack is advertising a range of soft drinks including 7Up, Spur Cola, Coca-Cola, Hispot, cosmos and Truorange. In the background is the facade of the ruined Minor Basilica and Metropolitan Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception. The photographer was on a run ashore from the tanker Caltex Melbourne (1945).
