Winston Churchill, MP for Stretford, on the starboard side of the bridge on board the 3-masted topsail schooner Sir Winston Churchill (1966) while she is under sail off Hythe in Southampton Water, bound in for Southampton Docks. Next to Churchill is a senior official of the Sail Training Assocation. A boy trainee is at the helm and next to him is Captain Swindells, holding his binoculars and talking to a young lady. the mainsail has been stowed and trainees are about to take in the mizzen. The photographer is looking aft from the starboard side of the deckhouse top. Royal Navy coastal minesweepers are in lay-up off Hythe in the background.
