Tilbury Landing Stage and the Gravesend-Tilbury ferry Rose (1901).
Tilbury Landing Stage and the Gravesend-Tilbury ferry Rose (1901). The Rose (1901), seen from abaft her port beam, is dried out inside the east end of the landing stage. Further inshore is one of the earlier ferries, either the Sir Walter Raleigh (1855) or the Earl of Essex (1877), and both of these were taken out of service in 1904-1905. The photographer is looking aft from the port side of a paddle steamer that is leaving the landing stage and appears to be turning to head across to Gravesend.
