Shipping in Gravesend Reach, River Thames.
Shipping in Gravesend Reach, River Thames. The photographer is looking west from on board a vessel heading upriver and Gravesend is in the distance. In the foreground is a spritsail barge with a deck cargo of sawn timber. She is under sail in light winds, her bowsprit is topped and she has an inner jib, mainsail, topsail and mizzen sail set. A four-masted barque in ballast and a laden three-masted barque are at anchor and other spritsail barges are under sail tacking across the river. A note on the negative says the photographer is using Camera A.
