Eight men ploughing the beach at Walmer, Kent.
Eight men ploughing the beach at Walmer, Kent. Seven of them are hauling on a rope attached to the wooden plough and one man is guiding the plough. The process is to flatten out ridges on the shingle beach to enable easier launching and recovery of boats. The single masted, lug-rigged dinghy Isabel Adams (Fl. 1890) is on the beach in the background. A note on the negative says the photographer is using Camera B.
