She is on the port tack with the sail boomed out to starboard and a crew member is peering under the foot of the sail. The Adams family referred to this boat as "the lifeboat". A note on the negative says the photographer is using Camera B and F.N.A. (Francis Norris Adams) is sailing the boat "first time".
