A crew member named Joe on board the lug rigged yacht Sandpiper (1899) which is under sail in The Downs. He is dressed in foul weather gear and is sitting between the thwarts holding the starboard rope of the running rigging in his left hand. The boat is on the port tack. The photographer, Edgar Tarry Adams, is looking forward from low down in the hull and a note on the negative says he is using Camera B.
