Tower of London
A watercolour of part of the Tower of London, by the London-born marine artist William Lionel Wyllie (1851-1931). The Tower was founded by William the Conqueror in 1066-67 and throughout its long history has held a number of important functions – as an armoury, royal palace, fortress, prison and place of execution. It has housed the Crown Jewels since the 17th century.
