Passengers transferring from a boat to the passenger/cargo coastal liner Princess Beatrice (1893), which is at anchor in The Downs. They are ascending the accommodation ladder rigged amidships on the starboard side of the ship. The photographer is in a boat off the bow of the ship looking aft and to port. Canvas dodgers are rigged on the boat deck, at the aft end of the promenade deck and in front of the bridge. A note on the negative says the photographer is using Camera B.
